I hope you are planning to be at Western on Saturday night for the D.C. premiere of Out of Order. (Yes, come on Sunday, too!) We’ll be continuing in this congregation’s commitment to full inclusion of all, as we host this documentary on the stories of GLBTQ candidates for ministry in the Presbyterian Church. If you’re still on the fence about coming here are a few other reasons:
1) Two of those whose stories are featured will be with us! Alex McNeill is the current director of More Light Presbyterians and will most likely be the first to be ordained as an openly transgendered in our denomination. Mieke Vandersall is a long-time friend and former director of Presbyterian Welcome (now Parity) in New York City, whose retreats gathered those whose stories are featured.
2) We get to welcome many guests who may never have heard of Western before, but who care about this film and the stories it tells.
3) And we’ll continue to find new ways to support the More Light movement in our denomination (any proceeds go to More Light Presbyterians), even as our denomination’s Book of Order allows for gender diversity in our ordination process, whether you are a ruling or teaching elder.
Come join us on Saturday, but even if you can’t make it, I hope to see you Sunday, when Alex will be preaching.
Towards a more faithful welcome and more welcoming faith,
