Session Notes

On Tuesday, April 11, the Session met with John Molina-Moore, the pastor that Western is considering as a possible Parish Associate for Community Life, a 20-hour-a-week position. John preached at Western on February 19. He would be charged with helping the congregation grow by: working with members to create a new worship opportunity that would be an alternative to Sunday mornings building small groups for long-time members and newcomers to grow in faith doing outreach in Foggy Bottom, at George Washington University, and with young adults developing a faith partnership with Northminster Presbyterian, a predominantly African American congregation in Silver Spring Session members were impressed byRead More →

Session met on Monday, March 20 — a little late because of the previous week’s snowstorm. Here are the highlights: Micah 6:8 Initiative: The Mission Ministry team is organizing the Micah 6:8 Initiative, a small group of members who will become experts on the social-justice topics Western cares about and then vet and publish opportunities where we can make a difference. February 2017: Pledges and Budget: To date, Western has received pledges for roughly $288,000 for 2017, which is $72,000 short of our goal of $360,000. With the new strategic vision and exciting, thought-provoking programs like Write Night and the recent anti-racism training, there’s a renewed energy bubbling at Western. We ask members to prayerfully consider what they can give to make that vision a reality. At the meeting, Session voted to cut $17,000 from the budget we approved in December and to revisit the budget in July to consider additional cutsRead More →

December 2016: The Session is preparing to review the rolls this month, a task required by our Book of Order. This process is being started up again after a few years of pastoral transitions.  Letters have gone out this past week to those who have not been here or have not communicated with the church office in the last two years. This Sunday will also be pledge dedication Sunday.  Cards will be available during worship, as we consider together our commitment to the vision for Western’s future.Read More →
