Invitation to Friday Prayer Services
Westerners have an open invitation to Friday prayer services, held in Miriam’s Kitchen at 12:15 and 12:45.(Visitors, usually welcomed by the GW Muslim Student Association coordinators, sit in folding chairs at the back of the room).
GWU Muslim Student Association Panel on Islam’s Intersectionalities
Friday, February 10th at 7:15 pm in the Marvin Center Room 309, 800 21st St NW, Washington, DC 20052
The panel features several Muslim American scholars, activists, and professionals that will dissect the structures of their Muslim identities. The purpose of this night of Q&A’s will not be for our panelists to offer academic advise or provide answers on professional inquiries, but rather the panel will be a platform for specialists from various fields to interrogate their own personal intersections within different categories. We do not imagine to even scratch the surface of the multitude of intersectional identities present in the Muslim community, but we do hope to dedicate this evening to a honest conversation.
With this panel event, our hope is to inspire impactful dialogue on the myriads of Muslim identities and assist in allowing students and non-students, alike, in attendance to find resonance in their own lives and lead to possible ties of personal and social justice-focused collaborations. Join the Muslim Students Association on February 10th in learning about Islam’s Intersectionalities through a set of diverse Muslim American individuals to learn, grow, reflect, and resonate.
Please join us in making this event a success through the submission of anonymous (or not) questions for our panelists through this link: https://goo.gl/forms/3EIAf6mnLQ2XgALV2
Future GWMSA programs include a visit to a local Islamic Center in late Feb/early March, and the “Muslim Monologues,” an annual festival of original poems, songs, and skits exploring Muslim American identities. More information will be posted when available.
