Lenten Events

Join Westerners and friends breaking bread and sharing ideas as we enter the Lenten season of reflection:

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner

Tuesday, February 28, 6:30-7:30pm  Courtyard Room

A little bit of history:  Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast and pancakes are the perfect way of using up these ingredients.  Enjoy a pancake dinner as we feast together starting from 6:30 (to 7:30 p.m.)

Ash Wednesday Service

Wednesday, March 1, 6:30pm Courtyard Room

Lenten Wednesdays at Western

Beginning Wednesday, March 8, 6:15pm

Starting March 8th, and successive Wednesdays through Lent, volunteer hosts will provide a light supper in the Courtyard Room starting at 6:15 p.m., followed by a program focusing on Refugees and Racism, and what we as disciples can do to address these issues. On March 8th and 15th, we will have Open Space discussions on refugees and the immigrant crisis in the U.S.; the following Wednesdays (22nd through April 5th) we will discuss the book, “Waking Up White” by Debby Irving.  If you are interested in serving as a dinner host (provide a soup/stew for the evening), please contact Ari Brose (brosems@gmail.com).  You can find the book on Amazon.com or Barnesandnoble.com.

Holy Week

We will celebrate holy week with the traditional Maundy Thursday service of communion and the washing of hands on April 13th, followed by a Good Friday service at noon on April 14th.  Easter Service will be held on Sunday, the 16th at 11 a.m. followed by hospitality.
