- Pledges and Budget: To date, Western has received pledges for roughly $288,000 for 2017, which is $72,000 short of our goal of $360,000. Three dedicated congregation members are making telephone calls to people who have not yet pledged. With the new strategic vision and exciting, thought-provoking programs like Write Night and the recent anti-racism training, there’s a renewed energy bubbling at Western. We ask members to prayerfully consider what they can give to make that vision a reality.
At the meeting, Session voted to cut $17,000 from the budget we approved in December and to revisit the budget in July to consider additional cuts proposed by the Finance Ministry.
- Ministry Focus: To keep the strategic vision moving forward, Session plans to focus on the work of one or two Ministry teams at each of its monthly meetings and how it can offer support and coordination. First up: the Personnel and Discipleship Ministries in March.
- Nominating Ministry: Todd Trafford was elected as the Session representative to the 2017 Nominating Ministry. He joins Greta Morris who was elected as the Deacons’ representative. If you feel called to join Todd and Greta to recruit new church officers, please let them know.
- Out of Order Film Screening: The Mission Ministry has organized a showing of Out of Order, a documentary that tells the story of LGBTQ faith leaders and their struggles as they confront bigotry and work to build support within their churches at Western on Saturday, March 11 at 6:30pm. Alex O’Neill, executive director of More Light Presbyterians and one of the pastors featured in the film will preach during worship on March 12.
To make Western more welcoming, we will soon post new signs that invite people to use the restroom of the gender with which they identify and that there are gender-neutral restrooms available at the back of the sanctuary.
